I take you step by step into the Japanese kitchen and I teach you how to make super tasty sushi rolls.  You will become a star in the kitchen and drive all your family and friends crazy with delicious sushi.

If you have ever eaten at a sushi restaurant, then you have probably seen the terms Nigiri, Maki, Futomaki, Sashimi, Gunkan, Uramaki, Temaki and even quite possibly the term Temari on the menu.

These are Japanese terms that indicate what form of sushi you are going to get. Each name has its own shape, has its own method of preparation and has its own specialty.

When I started making sushi, it was obvious to me that I would need at least a bamboo mat, because that’s what I saw all the sushi chefs going at it with. It also made sense that I would need some knives. And that was about it. Gradually I learned what it takes to throw a nice sushi dinner for family and friends.

I’ve gathered all my experiences together and now I’m going to tell you what you need.

I share my experiences so you can get started on making the perfect sushi rice. All the tips and tricks I learned through trial and error I will go through with you step by step. So that you can get started right away with cooking the perfect sushi rice. 

To make sushi, you need several tools in the kitchen. Most of them you have already seen here. The most important tool you will use are knives.

Any cook can tell you that razor-sharp knives are a standard tool in the kitchen. So too in Japanese cooking. Japanese knives are world famous for their sharpness. They are many times sharper than Western knives and ideal for making sushi.

Fresh ingredients are all about making your sushi look good. Fresh, fresh, fresh! Without super fresh ingredients, you are never going to succeed in making delicious sushi. 

Your fresh ingredients are ready. Your cutting board is clean waiting for you. Your knives are sharpened and waiting to be used. You have your bamboo mat ready and you have cooked your rice and prepared it all with the rice vinegar.

Now it’s time to make your first sushi roll!

These three seasonings are an absolute must at any good sushi dinner. Wasabi, that spicy bright green paste that you only have to take a little bit of to taste it and whose sudden heat quietly extinguishes again in your mouth.

Black soy sauce that seems to match all pieces of sushi in taste. And the slices of ginger that neutralize all explosions of taste in your mouth, so that you can again fully enjoy the next piece of sushi.
