The location of Dudu 31, Berlin

Berlin, what a fantastic city to visit as a tourist. Full of history, famous buildings, and well-known streets, like the renowned shopping street Kurfürstendamm. Originally, Kurfürstendamm served as a route for the nobility, but in the 19th century, it was modified to meet the needs of the time. The goal was to surpass the French Champs-Elysées. Since then, Kurfürstendamm has gained a truly majestic appearance, with an impressive width of 53 meters and beautiful promenades lined with well-known shops.

Dudu 31 is located in one of the side streets of this world-famous avenue, where you’ll also find the most exclusive shops. You can notice this when you visit Dudu 31: amazing cars with matching price tags are parked everywhere on the street. These cars frequently come and go to pick up boxes of sushi because you can also order takeout from this restaurant.

We had a perfect view of this since we secured a spot outside on the small sidewalk terrace. Inside was completely full, unfortunately. This gave us the chance to see a Ferrari and a sleek Maserati double-parked together. You don’t see that every day, do you?

The sushi at Dudu 31

This time, we started our sushi meal with one of my favorite nigiri: the one with Tamago, that delicious, sweet Japanese omelet. Soft in flavor and always a great start to a sushi meal. The chef was in a generous mood, as the tamago was thickly sliced and tasted perfect.

The chef was also generous with his Inside Out Roll with salmon, Hass avocado from Israel (as described on the menu), and fish roe. Lots of fish roe. This was simply scooped on top of the sushi roll. Astonishing. I had never seen it served this way before. The result was that the taste of the salmon and Hass avocado from Israel was overwhelmed by the taste and texture of the orange fish roe. What a shame.

For our next dish, we chose the nigiri with Japanese Kingfish. It was a fine nigiri. Definitely left us wanting more. And more we got with the next two sushi rolls. A lot more, as you can see in the photo.

Dudu's Special Rolls

On the menu, there was a special section dedicated to Dudu’s Special Rolls. I always get excited when I’m in a sushi restaurant and see special rolls on the menu. Curious as I am, I always choose one or two rolls from the specials. Why? Because that’s when the chef can showcase all their skills and often brings fantastic flavors to the table.

And flavors we got. A lot of flavors. What had I overlooked? That with Dudu’s special rolls, you also get salsa roja, guacamole, daikon, sesame seeds, spring onion, sesame dressing, and unagi sauce. The kitchen team was very generous with these additions.

It’s a shame because the sushi rolls themselves already had so much flavor. So, as best we could, we removed the salsa roja and guacamole from our ‘Crunchy DuDu roll’. And also from our ‘MySisters Roll’ (interesting name!), which featured grilled freshwater eel, a fantastic ingredient on its own!

Honestly, we didn’t understand why these rolls needed those extra additions. In our opinion, completely unnecessary, as the rolls were already good and surprisingly flavorful.

Who is Dudu 31 suitable for?

The indoor setting is beautiful, the menu offers unique sushi and delightful Asian dishes, and the atmospheric venue is perfect for a sushi dinner after a day of shopping on Kurfürstendamm. If you’re looking to enjoy a perfect evening together, Dudu 31 is an excellent choice.

Despite luxury cars frequenting the street, Dudu 31 is definitely not expensive. You can confidently step inside for a delightful sushi meal with friends or your partner without breaking the bank.
